About the division and team:

GV Health is the main Health Care provider in the Hume Region and is currently undergoing a $229 million redevelopment, this redevelopment will include a new renal dialysis unit, an expanded emergency department including satellite medical imaging, inpatient wards, extended theatre space, intensive care unit, a new kitchen, mortuary and the establishment of a Women’s and Children’s precinct featuring a new, special care nursery, paediatric ward and refurbished maternity ward.

Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (GVAMHWS) is GV Health’s division of mental health and provides mental health services across the age span over a catchment area covering five local government areas of Moira, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, Mitchell and Murrindindi. GVAMHWS recently underwent transformation in accordance with the Royal Commission requirements and created Aged based service streams. The Acute Response team of the Engagement and Access Mental Health and Wellbeing service stream (EAMHWS) is responsible for assessment of people of all ages.

 

The role:

The Consultant Psychiatrist is responsible for clinical leadership within the Acute Response Access Team to ensure that the consumers of the service receive treatment and care that is of the highest quality in a safe manner. The Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to work in partnership with the Manager of the Acute Response Access Team. The key expectation for the role is to develop the team to provide a high quality, integrated and seamless service to the consumers of GVAMHWS presenting with acute and/or severe conditions for assessment and short-term treatment. This will involve promoting relationships between the Acute Response Access Team and other groups, both internal and external to GV Health. Internally, the position will work collaboratively with GV Health Emergency Department, Wanyarra, other age-based Community Mental Health Teams that are part of Infant, Child & Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and Adult & Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. Externally, the Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to work collaboratively with Victorian Police, Ambulance, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, Moira Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals (GSSM Locals), Victorian Legal Aid, Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) and other agencies. This position amongst others is responsible for promoting GV Health as a quality regional health service provider. The Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for supervision of RANZCP trainees and medical students of the University of Melbourne.
