About the role:

The Consultant Psychiatrist is responsible for clinical leadership within the Adult Mental Health Program to ensure that the consumers of the service receive treatment and care that is of the highest quality in a safe manner. Within the Adult Mental Health Program this role is across two community sites in Shepparton & Seymour, to provide treatment and care for adult consumers in a community setting.

The key expectation for the role is to develop the teams to provide a high quality, integrated and seamless service to the consumers of GVAMHS. The Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to work in partnership with the Manager of the Adult Community Mental Health Program, the Nurse Unit Manager of Wanyarra, and the Manager (Wellways) Specialist Residential Rehabilitation Program (SRRP) and Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC).

This will involve promoting relationships between the Adult Mental Health Program and other groups such as other departments in GV Health, Wellways, Victorian Legal Aid, Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) and other agencies. This position amongst others is responsible for promoting GV Health as a quality regional health service provider. The Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for supervision of RANZCP trainees and medical students of the University of Melbourne.

 

Lived Experience Workforce:

GVAMHS has a dedicated Lived Experience Workforce strategy. GVAMHS appointed its first Consumer Consultant in 1998. It established a Consumer and Carer Advisory Council in 2001 to provide essential feedback into service delivery and development. GVAMHS employs Consumer Consultants, Carer Consultants and Peer Support Workers.

The aim of Consumer Consultants is to provide opportunities for consumers to have input into the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of Mental Health Services. The uniqueness of Lived Experience roles is the recognition of its specialist knowledge and experience base. Carer Consultants assist and support families and carers of consumers using the mental health service.

Peer Workers work alongside consumers to empower their decision making in their recovery journey. All Lived Experience Workers have had profound life – changing mental health challenges that have led to new life direction and concept of self or life – changing experiences while supporting someone with mental health challenges that have profoundly impacted their life / world view.

 

The Division and Team:

Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health Service (GVAMHS) is GV Health’s division of mental health and provides mental health services across the age span over a catchment area covering five local government areas of Moira, Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, Mitchell and Murrindindi.
