Goulburn Valley Health is seeking an experienced and progressive medical leader to join its executive leadership team as Director Medical Services.

This newly created role presents a rare opportunity to shape the position from the outset, build strong medical leadership capability and have a meaningful impact across the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director Medical Services will provide strategic and operational medical leadership across Goulburn Valley Health. Clinical Directors across the relevant acute and subacute clinical directorates will report to this role, providing significant scope to strengthen clinical governance, medical engagement, service performance and collaboration. Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Dental Services operate within a separate directorate.

The opportunity:

As Director Medical Services, you will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, executive team, Clinical Directors and senior leaders to support the delivery of safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Establish and shape a newly created, highly influential leadership role
  • Lead, support and develop the organisation’s Clinical Directors and Public Health Unit.
  • Strengthen medical leadership, accountability and engagement
  • Provide strategic advice on medical workforce, clinical governance and service delivery
  • Support service development and improvement across the health service
  • Build strong relationships with clinicians, executives and external stakeholders
  • Influence the future direction of clinical services within a growing regional health service
  • Make a visible and lasting contribution to the health of the local community

For candidates who wish to remain clinically active, there is also the opportunity to incorporate a proportion of clinical work into the position. This is optional and is not an essential requirement of the role.

About you:

You will be a respected senior medical leader with the credibility, judgement and interpersonal skills to engage clinicians and lead effectively within a complex health environment.

You will bring:

  • Registered Medical Practitioner in Australia (or eligible)
  • Significant senior medical leadership experience within a hospital or health service
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence senior clinicians
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and solutions-focused leadership style
  • The ability to build trust and effective relationships across clinical and executive teams
  • A genuine commitment to improving services and outcomes for regional communities

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA) would be highly regarded but is not essential.

Experience in a Director Medical Services, Executive Director Medical Services, Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Director or comparable senior medical leadership position will also be highly regarded.
