About the role:

Please note, this position is not suitable for applicants on specialist pathway with limited registration. 

The Emergency FACEM provides specialist emergency medical care and ensures smooth patient flow for patients presenting to the Emergency Department. During clinical shifts, the Emergency FACEM provides clinical leadership to ensure optimal outcomes to patients through working with the multidisciplinary team.

The Emergency FACEM supervises the work of Registrars and Junior Medical Officers (JMO’s) and is involved in teaching both junior doctors and medical students. The Emergency FACEM will be required to collaborate with other GV Health and SVHM specialists where appropriate and provide some services out of hours, including some weekends. The clinical component of these positions is shared equally between GV Health and SVHM EDs though there is flexibility to consider alternatives of successful applicants.

The Emergency FACEM will contribute to the overall strategic planning and improvement of the quality of clinical care and service delivery provided to GV Health consumers. This position amongst others is responsible for promoting GV Health as a quality regional health service provider.

The Emergency FACEM will support the values and strategic priorities of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM). They will provide excellence in the delivery of clinical service in the discipline of Emergency Medicine. In addition, they support SVHM teaching, research and clinical governance programs.

The GV Health Emergency Department includes the following:

• 36 bed ED with a high acuity and diverse case mix
• A designated regional trauma service
• 3 state-of-the-art resuscitation bays
• 2 negative pressure isolation cubicles
• 13 additional acute care cubicles
• A dedicated Fast Track area with seven cubicles and a consultation room
• A 9 bed Short Stay Unit, including one isolation room
• A CT scan room, ultrasound room and two new X-Ray rooms
• A Behavioural Assessment room, mental health consult spaces, forensic room
